OUR STORY

The creation of The Boulder Yard has been a long journey to establish this community based facility. It all started when Steve wanted a more supportive group around rock climbing- not the feeling of big box and chain climbing gyms.  The dream started in the founder, Steve's 200 square foot garage. Steve and his crew started building the gym in May 2018 and though times got rough, the entirety of the climbing walls, group fitness studio, and everything else was built by hand. The Boulder Yard has been long in the making ever since Steve was a kid tightening the last bolt on his first engine rebuild to drilling in the last screw into these climbing walls. Steve and his team have put their blood, sweat, and ambition into starting a new bouldering community here in Frederick.

Steve Baranski
Owner

Steve is the owner who supports and takes care of both members and employees providing detailed guidance for a successful community. Before building his facility Steve has spent the past 10 years as a mechanical engineer and has a bachelors in recreation management. After a successful career helping establish corporate gyms- such as Lifetime Fitness, Steve now helps his community by supporting local businesses and gives back support by providing his bouldering facility. Steve has a lot of surprises planned so stay tuned in.

Joseph Danner
Gym Manager

Coming on board in 2022, Joe is excited to be an essential part of the team here.  Growing up in Frederick he has a passion for the outdoors (exploring National parks), exercise and biomechanics, art, cycling, mental health awareness, and much more. Joe graduated from University of Maryland, College Park with a BA in Economics.
